Here are four key elements to help you to generate good mental health and increase your mental energy, capacity and brain performance.

Exercise

too much sitting and not enough moving takes its toll, not

just on our physical health but our mental health too. This does not mean you have to go to the gym every day, but it is important to build some movement into your day, even a short walk is often enough to brighten our spirits and clear our heads.

Nutrition

The way we feel in this moment could be caused by what we last ate, how much you eat, what you eat and when you eat can have an impact on your brain function, The NHS eat well guide provides us with information on how to maintain a healthy diet, fruit and vegetables are a vital source of vitamins and minerals, and should make up just over a third of the food we eat each day. NHS guidance is 8 classes of fluid per day, so drink plenty of water, it contains no calories, no sugars and is cheap and readily available.

Rest & Recovery

sleep is our natural rest and recovery state, experts say we need 7-9 hours sleep per night, but quality of sleep is also important. Make sure you turn off technology such as television, phones, tablets and computers at least 30 minutes before you got to bed as these can stimulate your brain making it more difficult for you to fall asleep. In addition to sleep we need regular breaks from our normal routine, taking regular breaks at work and holidays are important for your mind re-charge and energise

Your Mindset

Having a healthy mindset is probably the most important element to maintaining good Mental Health, this is to do with how you think, how you feel and how you act. In these uncertain times every day brings new worries, headlines and stories that can make us feel overwhelmed, panicked and out of control, There was a time when mindfulness was deemed a “new age’ practice, now it seems to be the latest craze sweeping the nation, all around us people are talking about the benefits, and how people’s lives have been changed by it. It is on the cover of magazines, celebrities and entrepreneurs tell us how it brought them success.
